Online guitar lessons

October 29, 2008 at 1:34 am (Uncategorized)

I’m a music education major who’s emphasis is in voice, but who’s best instrument is guitar. Guitar has been incredibly instrumental (pun intended) in my music education, but it has been on my own time. I didn’t have the opportunity to study guitar in high school or middle school. I did have the opportunity to study classical concert band instruments (as most students do) and I took advantage of it. I am an advocate for implementing guitar in public music education. It has so many advantages. A knowledge of the guitar can teach music theory and harmony better than private¬†clarinet¬†lessons. However, many teachers are not educated in guitar. I recently found this site that offers online lessons, tutorials, and all sorts of aid for the guitar… and its free. The site is actually donation run, so you could contribute if you want.classical_guitar

Zizzle Zounds

These are a way cool new toy to introduce music composition to younger children. Just check out a couple videos on youtube. Here’s one person’s blog about zizzle zounds. I’m not sure how it could be used in the classroom, but I bet a teacher could figure it out.
