Here’s a website that can be very beneficial to students and teachers. Its an online metronome. Now students only need to be near a computer with an internet connection to have a metronome. It can play any tempo, has an A440 tuning note, and even has a way to be downloaded to your cell phone. Pretty cool.

I don’t even know where to begin on this one. This is a link to a website for an awesome new technology. Its some sort of device that takes movement and turns it into sound. Its basically a great new kinestetic way to teach music. The possibilities are seemingly endless for the benefits of music totally based on movement. It gives students a chance to feel music in their body, in addition to hearing it. How cool.

Here’s a site where one music educator gives  detailed and yet simple step by step instructions on how to get technology into the music classroom if you’re starting from scratch. Its kinda like a how to do it for dummies version, so maybe it’ll be a great thing for me to use one day. Its a great site because its simple and yet thorough.  Its starts from nothing and slowly moves you to a better knowledge of where to begin and why.

Here’s a cool online resource that maybe could be used in a classroom.  Its a website called nowplayit.com. I’ve mentioned before about being an advocate for using the guitar in the classroom to teach music, and this website could help with that. It gives tutorials on how to play popular songs by the artists who made them famous. What a great way to get your students interested, huh?! You have to sign up, and so it may be a good idea to do some research before subscribing, but it does have a pretty extensive list of artists and songs.

Here’s a pretty cool post from one of the blogs on my blogroll.  This person did some research to find some of the best new things with using the internet for music ed.  What’s the most interesting about all of this is that the person is British. So the blog is a great resource to see how music educators around the world are using technology. The post gives  a few great webistes that give music tutorials and also extensive reasons as to why these are good resources.

Technology in music, especially music software, wasn’t something I learned much about til college. Here’s a site about a grade school that has its own music technology classes. The teacher says that she is using computers and her grade school student (as young as second grade) are learning to read, write, compose, and publish their own music. Thats incredible! She also recieved the TIME teacher of the year award in 2006, so she must be seeing results.

Here’s one teacher’s blog about how he uses music to help with his ELL students. Its great to see how music can be used across curriculums and also to aid in the overall life of student’s that need help. This guy pretty much gives a list of the best resources online that he uses for this. He gives a lot of them, and he also gives reasons why. He goes into some very helpful info. There’s a lot there.

I just discovered that there actually is a Technolody Institute for Music Educators. They have conferences and workshops and such every year. They also recognize a teacher of the year.  I couldn’t get a link right to the page about it, but its easy to find once you get to the site homepage. Last year’s teacher of the year has a pretty incredible techonology setup for his music classes. He actually offers digital music classes. He started in 1998 with just a small class, and now he has a huge full blown lab and students in there every hour of every day. His lab is aiding students in their studies of any area of music education. Whatever he’s doing, it seems to be working, at least well enough for him to get an award.

So here’s a cool video on teaching triads and inversions and playing them on the piano and then applying them to a fun song that would appeal to students. This video can save teachers a bunch of work because someone has already done the work and taken the time to post the lesson. It also does a great job of applying the song to something fun to motivate the students.
